Australian zombies revealed

Regular readers of this column will recall my wibbling about the Business Software Alliance's Australian operation probing my PC the other week - presumably for P2P file sharing. Ahem...

It appears I'm not just being paranoid, as CNet reports the Aussie government has recruited five Internet service providers to track down PCs and servers generating spam, malware and denial-of-service attacks - from within Australia.

According to the newswire, the campaign - known as the Australian Internet Security Initiative - is a three month trial by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), which has developed an automated application to do the necessary.

Interesting stuff, but why on earth are they probing UK IP addresses?

Or am I really being paranoid this time?...
