My comments about the number of free personal firewall applications slowly ebbing away earlier this week appears to have struck a nerve over at Zone Labs.
The company has just announced that it will continue to offer and support a complete range of firewall offerings, including the free ZoneAlarm software, for the foreseeable future.
This, says the company, offers a degree of refuge to users with PCs left orphaned by recent events.
"The firewall has to be the foundation of any effective Internet security solution because the threat environment has changed significantly over the past year," said Laura Yecies, general manager at Zone Labs and vice president at Check Point.
"Attacks are no longer created to gain news headlines. Hackers operate quietly to steal personal information and control of a consumers PC for financial gain and preventative firewall technologies are the most effective protection," she added.
