ID theft not that serious

A report just out says that ID theft - despite what a lot of the banks and credit card companies are saying - is not as bad as is made out to be.

The report, from ID Analytics, says that, where thieves have gained access to personal data, only one in every 1,000 results in a real identity theft taking place.

The fraud detection firm says that, as well as noting this surprising statistic, the smaller the security breach, the larger the chanCe of an identify theft taking place.

This seems to suggest that the major personal information hacks, even though they are major, usually don't result in your ID being stolen.

On the other hand, if the attack is a singleton, or involving a small group of users, then there's a far stronger chance of your ID being nicked for nefarious purposes...
