The Boston Globe and Worcester Telegram & Gazette is reported to have mistakenly sent out slips of paper with the credit card data of up to nearly a quarter million subscribers.

According to US press reports, the card numbers were printed on routing slips attached to 9,000 bundles of newspapers sent to retailers and carriers last weekend.

Within hours of the cock-up being discovered, the publisher of the paper issued an advisory, claiming that steps have been taken at the paper to increase security around credit card reporting.

Try telling that to the 240,000 cardholders whose card details have effectively been compromised by the publisher's actions...
