Spam. There's a lot of it. Around 40 per cent of my email gets spam-bucketed, so that's why I'm in favour of Yahoo and AOL's plans to offer a pay-email service to their commercial senders.
The idea is that Yahoo and Email will guarantee eyeball space to their commercial email senders, in return for a few cents per message.
This is great. Unless they abuse the system. But they've made a commitment they won't do so, so you have to trust them. And despite what some doom-mongers say, Yahoo and AOL's track record on doing what they say is excellent.
The doom-mongers predict the creation of a two-tier Internet. I think that's rubbish.
What do you think?
