Morpheus creator gets legal with Skype

Morpheus

StreamCast Networks, the company that developed the Morpheus file sharing software system, has filed a lawsuit against several companies, including Skype.

Reporting on what could be an interesting legal bunfight, CNet says the lawsuit has been brought under the Racketeer Influence and Corrupt Organisations Act (RICO), which sounds pretty nasty.

Internet News, meanwhile, suggests that the lawsuit alleges that the Skype streaming technology is the same as seen in Skype and is seeking damages of $4.1 billion.

It's kind of ironic that the company behind Morpheus should start getting legal with Skype, given its file sharing origins. Mind you, we are talking about US companies here...
