I was mildly concerned to read that lawyers for Gary McKinnon, the 40-year-old alleged NASA hacker, are fighting his extradition to the US, where his is likely to appear on hacking charges, amidst fears he could end up in Guantanamo Bay.
Myself, I suspect he will end up being extradited to the US, as the current British government's approach to the US on extradition is one of tactical appeasement. But can we extradite US citizens to the UK? Oh no, that's not allowed.
Having said that, if you have the dosh, the US legal system will look after you. Especially if you're a Brit. Which is why I think that Gary will be extradited, but he won't be carted off to Orange-suitsville-south-of-the-border.
Gary will be appearing on the podium at the Infosecurity Show in London next Tuesday, so it will be interesting to hear what he has to say on the Guantanamo Bay front....
