Advertisers, Advertisers, Advertisers: Microsoft's new war cry

Some of you might remember Microsoft's CEO dance some years back which left observers baffled.

Steve Ballmer is back, this time with a new slogan - "advertisers, advertisers and advertisers" rather than the hitherto "developers, developers, developers". You can watch the clip from Avenue A|Razorfish's annual client summit.

Some might see a welcome change in focus for the world's biggest software company; with Microsoft starting to consider what people actually want rather than being a follower and jumping in the bandwagon after its competitors.

Personally, I have my doubts. Microsoft's main revenue earners have been the corporate market for a number of years. Most of its consumer-oriented ventures, Xbox and MSN notably, have haemorrhaged money for quite some years now.

I wonder whether Steve was literally thinking of advertising as a way of getting more money in the coffers of Microsoft or whether Microsoft was going to inspire itself from the way advertising works to get the company back on track.

Whatever the direction the Redmond Company takes, be assured that you will be the first to know.
