Open source is hurting Microsoft, but not where you think

Quocirca is an analyst firm that looks at the big picture rather than at details that often mask the truth.

They wrote an article on Silicon.com to highlight where they think Linux will harm Microsoft the most.

It is not on the desktop that Microsoft has most to fear from Linux but rather in the "Software As A Service" (SaaS) field, a category that is growing in importance as more and more providers shy away from the traditional desktop market.

As Linux in one sense is not only is cheaper to run than other proprietary operating systems like Microsoft Windows and because Linux can be customized to suit the needs of the service providers, Quocirca reckons that Microsoft should be careful about what's going on in the SaaS field.
