According to the latest Pew Internet and Americal Life project, forty-eight million American adults have contributed some form of user-generated content on the internet.
Out of them 31 million have a home broadband connection, although it is unknown how many contribute from their office lines. We have no such similar figures for the United Kingdom but judging from a quick straw poll – it appears that we aren’t too far behind. Latest official figures shows that more than 65% of internet connections are now broadband based.
Furthermore, it is clear that broadband together with always-on access play a crucial role in making user generated content a popular hobby.
Unfortunately, that same democratisation process is being undermined by the threats to net neutrality that we saw in some of our past blogs.
