It is slightly surprising that no one has contested Microsoft’s recent announcement of its Windows Live OneCare security service.
By launching such a service, Microsoft is unfairly leveraging its Windows XP and Vista operating systems to conquer new grounds. The home security market is worth billions and it is clear that Microsoft wants a sizeable chunk of it.
By offering a complete solution including an Antivirus, Antispyware, Data Backup, Firewall and Performance tune-ups in a one-stop integrated shop, Microsoft seriously undermines the position occupied by well known brands like Symantec, F-Secure or McAfee.
For now, there has yet to be formal complaints or calls to investigate Microsoft's move. Some argue that Microsoft should bundle it for free rather than sell it given the fact that Windows Operating systems are amongst the most vulnerable.
