A 23-year-old alleged US hacker has been jailed for 21 months for operating a bogus MSN billing site. Jayson Harris was also ordered to pay $57,000 in damages.
Harris' conviction follows on from him pleading guilty on two counts of wire fraud and fraud earlier in the year.
US newswire reports say that Harris operated a bogus MSN billing site on the Net between January 2003 and June 2004, encouraging visitors to the site using links in thousands of spam e-mail messages.
The e-mails told MSN customers that they could get a 50 per cent discount on their next month's subscription if they visited the bogus site and `updated' their account information.
That information included, of course, their credit card details and all the usual stuff that can be used by hackers for nefarious purposes...
