McAfee apologises for software glitch

McAfee has taken the unusual step of apologising for failing to correct a serious design flaw in its IT security software, which was apparently identified and `corrected' some six months ago.

The problem with the original `correction' is that the repair could, under certain circumstances, allow hackers to gain control of a host computer system.

The design flaw seems to affects a component in McAfee's `ePolicy Orchestrator,' which is used for managing security software on computers in large organisations.

McAfee says that it is advising users of its software to download and install and update as soon as practicable...
