Does your employer really need to know...

Got a notice of a variation in terms and conditions from Alliance & Leicester credit card services - part of the MBNA card issuing group - and one of the changes is the people the card company will share information on my account with.

As well as sharing data with MBNA and its agencies, plus an array of credit checking companies, MBNA will now share information on your card accounts with companies that employ you, or are thinking of employing you. Oh, and agencies that work on behalf of existing/potential employers.

I'm not happy about this. It's a gross invasion of privacy for an employer to know details of an employee's finances.

MBNA claim that the clause is there for people who working in the financial services industry, but the condition effectively gives the card issuer the ability to share details of your account with anyone who employs - or is thinking of employing - you, the cardholder.

If you have an MBNA card, check your new T&Cs and let the company know what you think of this change...
