Badware - it's here - and it's baaaaad...

My thanks to Mark Sunner, CTO of MessageLabs, the outsourced anti- malware company, for pointing out the arrival of Badware services and software onto the market.

Sunner says that software like Massbots is allowing phishing software creators to target their victims much more precisely, to the point where the recipient of the phishing email sees their name and email details in the message and presumes it's a genuine one.

Ostensibly, Massbots seems to provide browsing assistance and automated access to the MySpace.com Web portal, but the package reveals what it's really about when you see it allows large numbers of `friends' to be made quickly and easily, and the fact that it bypasses image code (Captcha-like) protection systems.

MMMmmm - and all for $23.99. Oh dear - the Internet is once again getting like the Wild West it was a decade ago...
