Chinese hackers knacker country's e-payment system

I was immensely amused to hear that a group of anonymous hackers had installed a backdoor trojan on China Unionpay's Web portal - the country's only national e-payment system - on Friday that may result in customer data being leaked.

According to the Xinhua newswire, the backdoor applet - Backdoor.Blackhole.2005.a - is capable of taking over a user's PC, if they download the trojan from the host Web site.

Hmmm - the trojan is quite an old one, but in China, it's anyone's guess as to whether Web users have an anti-virus/malware package installed on their machines.

The scale of the problem is revealed when you realise that China Unionpay has over 172 million customers in China....
