Finjan has taken the wraps off a free plug-in for Internet Explorer and Firefox that gives users an indication of the safety rating for the Web site they are searching for.
Known as Finjan SecureBrowsing, the plug-in uses real-time content inspection to provide a site rating.
Previewed at the RSA Security event in San Francisco in February of this year, the free plug-in and allied service is being formally unveiled at the Infosecurity Europe show in London this week.
Announcing the new service, Yuval Ben-Itzhak, Finjan's CTO, said that, by its nature, the Web is very dynamic with site content changing continuously.
"A URL that was safe yesterday might contain malicious code today. Unlike other products that are based on static databases containing information on Web domain reputations, Finjan SecureBrowsing scans each URL as it currently exists on the Web, each time the address is displayed in the browser," he explained.
