Hitachi 1TB Hard Drive grabs PC World award

Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi) has been honored by PC World with a 100 Best Products of 2007 award. Hitachi’s Deskstar 7K1000, the world’s first one-terabyte (TB) hard drive, placed 20 out of 100 in the 100 Best Products listing and was the only hard drive represented on the list. The article covering all of the products is available now on, and will also be featured in the July 2007 issue of PC World, which hits newsstands June 12.

The Deskstar 7K1000 hard drive began shipping to retailers and online retailers at the end of March 2007. The Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 hard drive delivers superior performance, as well as leadership capacity, to meet the needs of consumers who want to create, share and store their digital information in ever increasing volumes.

“It is an honor to receive this prestigious award from PC World. It represents a great achievement for our Deskstar engineering team and for Hitachi,” said Shinjiro Iwata, chief marketing officer, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies. “We set out to develop the highest-capacity, highest-performing hard drive to meet the demands of the PC enthusiast and the consistently positive industry recognition the Deskstar 7K1000 hard drive has received is proof that we have succeeded.”

The respected 100 Best Products awards honor products that meld practical features with innovation and reflect the rapidly changing technology marketplace. To select the winners, PC World’s editors examined hundreds of products, including those that have appeared in the magazine over the past 12 months. The winning products and services were selected for their exemplary design and usability, features, performance and innovation.

“Products that win PC World’s 100 Best Products of 2007 awards set the standard for excellence in the IT and consumer electronics industries,” stated Harry McCracken, vice president/editor-in-chief of PC World. “From notebooks and security software to MP3 players and smart phones, the editors reward the most outstanding performers in this annual awards program. Congratulations to Hitachi and the Deskstar 7K1000 one-terabyte hard drive.”

The Deskstar 7K1000 hard drive is built on the industry’s most reliable perpendicular magnetic recording technology, allowing Hitachi to extend capacity beyond that available in current 3.5-inch hard drive products. Hitachi’s terabyte hard drive features a 3.0Gb/s Serial-ATA (SATA) interface and a large 32 MB data buffer to provide the performance required for high-end PC applications.
