D-Link launches PowerLine HD Ethernet Starter Kit

The Digital Home is set to become a reality for even more consumers following the introduction of the DHP-301 PowerLine HD, a fast 200Mbps Ethernet Starter Kit from D-Link, the end-to-end networking solutions provider for consumers and business. PowerLine adapters take advantage of active wall sockets to transfer traffic.

This enables consumers to extend their network simply by tapping into their existing electrical wiring set-up, thus providing homes or small businesses with a fast and cost-effective alternative to traditional Ethernet installations.

The DHP-301 is an ideal solution for bandwidth-demanding applications such as high-definition media streaming, music sharing and online multi-player gaming.

Connecting to the home network simply requires plugging one adapter to a router and the other to an Ethernet-ready device such as a personal computer, High Definition TV, digital video recorder, game console, print server or digital media player, such as D-Link's award-winning MediaLounge family of media streaming products.

Delivering data transfer rates of up to 200Mbps, D-Link’s PowerLine HD provides ample bandwidth, making it ideal for homes or small offices where concrete walls, successive floors in multi-storied buildings, or other architectural impediments could inhibit a wireless signal.

D-Link’s PowerLine HD Ethernet Adapter transmits data reliably by intelligently adapting to the strongest signal channels. Electrical currents do not interfere with the data network because electricity and data are transmitted at very different frequencies.

In addition to its impressive throughput, D-Link’s PowerLine HD includes a built-in Quality-of-Service (QoS) engine that prioritises data packets in order to enhance HD video and audio streaming, intense online gaming and VoIP calling. Security is one of D-Link’s priorities when developing a product and therefore the DHP-301 provides 3DES encryption for securing the connection, thus helping to keep network data safe from intruders.

"The D-Link brand is synonymous with high performance, robust networking that‘s easy to install and use. The PowerLine range continues this tradition, making it easier for even more consumers to enjoy the benefits of a true digital home," said Andrew Mulholland, D-Link Marketing Manager, UK and Ireland. "The PowerLine range is a natural complement to our popular wired and wireless home networking products, facilitating data transfer into areas of a home where traditionally it may have been difficult to run a cable, or achieve an adequate wireless signal."
