PS3 hacked to play copied games

Well, now there's a surprise. The Playstation 3 has been hacked to allow users to play copied versions of PS3 games, which I'm reliably told can be downloaded and burned to disk for under a fiver.

Compared to the 50 quid or thereabouts that PS3 premium games are going for, that's quite a price differential.

Don't rush out and download the new firmware just yet, though, as reports suggest that only PS3s with v1.10 and 1.11 firmware will boot up the copied disks, but will not actually load them. Yet.

Mind you, those same reports said the same thing about pirate games for the xBox360 when it first started shipping.

Give the hackers time and I'm sure there will be a lot for Sony to get upset about when a `Flipper' version of the PS3 is developed...
