Apple warns about iPhone unlocking and updates

Apple has issued a veiled warning to its customers over the unauthorised unlocking of its iPhones.

The Press release points to the fact that modified iPhones could be rendered permanently inoperable if Apple iPhones were updated.

Gizmodo apparently got confirmation from Apple that running any non approved third party app would void the warranty.

Since the release of the iPhone earlier this month, a growing number of websites are offering services that allow individuals to unlock iPhones that are tied to an Apple partner network (O2 in UK, T-Mobile in Germany, Orange in France and AT&T in US) as well as populating your iPhones with nifty applications.

Unlocking the iPhone prevents Apple from collecting royalties and additional revenues from value added services.
