Power Line Chip could change broadband market

According to EETimes, DS2, a Spanish network chip specialist, is set to debut a chip which will allow data to be transmitted using power lines at 400mbps, roughly 150 times the average speed of broadband in UK.

Multi-room IPTV, HDTV, network Personal Video Recorders and other bandwidth hungry applications and devices will be the big beneficiaries.

Power line technology provides with a stable, safe and cheap plaform for data transmission by using electrical wiring within the house.

This not only reduce the cost of installation, but also means less wires while at the same time eliminating security and safety problems associated with WiFi.
