iPhone madness starts today

Well, today's the day when the great unwashed of the UK get their chance to buy an O2-branded and network locked iPhone from the O2 Retail, Carphone Warehouse and Apple stores.

It's interesting to note, though, that several forums are already advising on how to unlock the beasties from their O2 chains, which involves stepping the firmware back one or two steps and unlocking from there.

In the US, meanwhile, crackers have discovered the new iPhone firmware has some interesting hidden features such as one piece of code that asks if you are `sure you want to manually manage your music on your iPhone?'

Even more exciting, though, is the string that reads `The iPhone contains new voice memos. Would you like to move these voice memos to your iTunes library?'

Currently, of course, there is no iPhone voice memo functionality, so this must be a feature coming real soon now.

Finally, here's an amusing clip from Youtube from an early adopter of the iPhone in the US, who got a bigger bill than she anticipated...

Have a good weekend everyone...
