Just-released Asus 10-inch EEE PC1000 Laptop is poor value

The brand new Asus EEE PC 1000 series is now officially available in UK with two models on sale at £349 and £369 respectively although we had some difficulties finding stock in Blighty.

But it will have a hard time replicating the success the original EEE PC laptop had when it was launched late last year.

This time around, MSI, Acer, HP and a host of other laptop manufacturers are queuing up to milk this popular laptop segment.

The EEE PC 1000 sports a 10-inch 1024x600 display and comes with an Intel Atom CPU with 1GB memory while offering a six-cell battery with a battery life of 7.5 hours when doing simple tasks with your wireless connectivity off.

The laptop is still equipped with a webcam and Asus has bundled a 20GB online storage.

The cheaper Windows-XP based version comes with a 80GB hard disk drive while the more expensive 40GB Flash SSD comes with a Linux OS instead.

Earlier EEE laptops had a smaller 8.9 inch screen and used the older Intel Celeron CPU.

Still, when you consider that the MSI Wind, Acer's Aspire One, Advent's 4211 and Dell's mini Vostro are all within the same price bracket, there's not much girth for the Asus EEE to navigate.
