Nokia's iPhone Killer, the 5800 Tube, Appears On Chinese Website

Those who went to see the latest Batman movie, the Dark Night, might have seen it in the hands of Morgan Freeman and more details have now been revealed courtesy of Chinese website tech.qq.com.

The Nokia 5800 Xpress media, also known as the Tube (no, it is NOT cylindrical), comes with the fifth edition of the famed Symbian S60 operating system and looks like a squeezed iPhone albeit a bit thicker.

Intriguingly, it features a 3'ish inch touchscreen with a 640x360 pixel resolution, giving a perfect 16:9 ratio and making it ideal to view movies as well.

From afar, it does look like a seriously trimmed down Nokia N800 Internet tablet which was also a touchscreen phone but with a resolutely different approach.

Other features include a microSD card reader, a 3.2MP digital camera complete with dual LED flash, 140MB worth of internal memory and much much more (see our previous Tube article).

It looks as if the original Q1'2009 launch time frame suggested by some might be too far away at least for Nokia; the phone is ready and punters should expect a launch as early as December 2008.
