Furniture Giant IKEA Steps Into MVNO pastures with Mobile Business

The Swedish retailer is all set to launch its mobile operator service ‘Family Mobile’ in UK.

IKEA, which is renowned for its stylish and cost effective furniture, has stepped into mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) market, in collaboration with T-Mobile.

Initially, the Swedish furniture giant will be offering its services- under the name of Family Mobile - to 1.4 million consumers in UK.

The company would offer its services to its loyalty card holders, and would operate as pay-as-you-go service, which have already been tried out by several service providers in UK, including ESPN, which finally withdrawn its services within a year of its launch; however, Virgin Mobile is the only company that has pioneered the concept.

Speaking about the launch of Family Mobile services, IKEA’s customer relationship marketing manger for UK, Jason Baker, stated that the services would help the customers in monitoring their mobile expenses, especially in this ongoing credit crunch in UK.

However, the company hasn’t shown any hints for launching its services to other countries.
