All the recent Netbooks have been the product of classic laptop production chains : Asus, MSI, Dell, Acer and so on but LG's entrance in the Netbook market could herald a brand new threat to the laptop segment.
Launched at the current IFA 2008 in Germany, LG's new X110 netbook packs a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor with 1GB memory, a webcam, the choice between a 80GB and a 120GB hard disk drive, a 10-inch screen and Windows XP - the characteristics of a classic netbook.
Now, could it be that Nokia, SonyEricsson, Samsung or Motorola have plans to release or at least rebadge Netbooks? Surely, there's some hard money to be made in there...
The laptop also packs in HSDPA, 802.11x WiFi and wired LAN as well as a couple of USB ports.
It will be available in several colours as from October and prices will start at around £300.
