On Techsupportforum :"...I'm looking into getting a new video card and then I got my eye on the Sapphire Radeon HD 4870. So I was thinking of getting it but there is one problem. My power supply is 350W but it says it requires a 500W power supply. So I would like to know if the power supply shortage is a problem and if it is, could someone tell me about other video cards that are good for gaming?..."

On : "...Hi, I've done something completely dumb, flashing my Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 with some incompatible BIOS. All I've noticed is a black screen and the PC will not boot at all. I would appreciate if someone could help me uploading the BIOS for my graphics card. The info above was reported by ATIFlash v3.60 before things went actually wrong. As you can see, it appears that this BIOS is special or very recent. I've bought my 3D card in Euroland last week. Thanks for help! ..."

On Sapphiretech: "...I just bought the Sapphire Radeon HD 4870, and I'm having problems with launching a couple of games. I can't launch world of warcraft and call of duty 4 multiplayer (singleplayer does work). When I try to launch one of the games my screen turns black and jumps back to the desktop... Does anyone know how to fix this? I uninstalled my Nvidia drivers and installed the newest ati drivers...."

On Hardwareforums : "...I have that exact same graphics card (check my computer) And i have a Hiper 580 Watt PSU powering a C2D, 2 HardDisks, DVD Drive, Soundcard, ATi 4870, 6GB mem, CPU cooler and 2 other fans and has more power. The ATi 4870 requires TWO 6- pin PCI Express connectors but if you don't have two 6pin then it also comes with molex connectors..."

What Other Reviewers are Saying:

Tweaktown : "Given the level of excitement the HD 4850 left, not only with us, but also gamers and enthusiasts all over the world, the HD 4870 quickly became extremely anticipated by people. Will it beat the GTX 260? - How much faster than the HD 4850 is it? - Can it out-perform the GTX 280? - How does Crossfire scale?"

Thinkcomputer.org : "As I've mentioned before, the ATI Radeon HD 4000 series video cards have really shaken up the VGA market. The architecture of the R700 GPU, the awesome performance it has, and the price points of the new Radeon cards have driven down the prices of all other video cards. The HD 4850, hitting the market at under $200, outperforms the 9800GTX, that entered the market a few months before at $350."

Benchmarkreviews : Tao Le Ching had it right: the more you know, the less you understand. This notion surrounds the computer hardware industry as much as anything, because I have discovered that the moment my experiences lead me towards one opinion, the industry changes and goes into a new direction. Case in point: AMD / ATI. Phenom processors built for the Spider platform have had a very difficult time building momentum against Intel, relegating AMD to being second-best."

ASElabs : "The Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 comes in the standard box with black and red accents. The girl on the box (you know, to attract potential customers which are usually guys) is a Tomb Raiderish looking girl. Sex sells, it's everywhere. Still not seen on the Sapphire box is Linux support which has been included since the release of the 4800 series."

Bit-tech : "In the few short weeks since its release, the 4870 X2 has gone from strength to strength, cementing its position as the fastest single graphics card available. In our initial review, we were amazed at the performance advances made by the 4870 X2 over Nvidia's competing GeForce GTX 280 in numerous benchmark tests, although ATI/AMD's wonder card did show a few chinks in its armour in un-optimised games"
