Orange Debuts £49 Touchscreen Vegas Smartphone
Orange has unveiled UK's cheapest touchscreen smartphone, the Vegas which comes with some great features and an unbelievably low £49 price tag.
Sold as a pay as you go handset and available either in black or in pink, Vegas is certainly one of the lightest and smallest smartphones around with an 84g weight; it is manufactured it seems by ZTE and is also available at T-Mobile.
Interestingly, the device looks very, very similar to the HTC Touch which costs significantly more. Vegas sports a 2.4-inch touchscreen with a 1.3-megapixel camera (the biggest letdown) as well as a VGA front camera.
It also supports MP3 playback and a speaker built at the back. On top of all this, you will get an integrated FM radio, a built-in browser and compatibility with microSD cards up to 4GB to complement the 64MB onboard memory.
The Vegas doesn't support 3G unfortunately at this price, this means though that you can expect some good standby time (7 days) and talk times (3 hours). Customers will have to buy a £10 topup to get the device for £48.50.
If users choose the Orange Dolphin tariff, they will be able to enjoy 300 free texts as well as free access to Bebo, Facebook and Myspace.
T-Mobile sells its twin brother, the Vairy Touch for £48.92 but without the need for a top up and apparently comes with a 1GB memory card.
