O2 Adds 3000 BT Openzone WiFi Hotspots To Its Network

Mobile Network Operator O2 has announced that it will be partnering with telecoms company BT to provide its customers with 3,000 WiFi hotspots across Britain.

O2's mobile broadband users as well as iPhone owners will be able to experience faster and more reliable connectivity through a total of 10.500 WiFi-hotspots including O2's and The Cloud own.

The access, which will come at no charge, will be particularly useful in premium locations such as railway stations, airport lounges, conference centres and motorway service stations, as well as in Caffè Nero and Starbucks coffee houses, and Hilton hotels.

Jonathan Earle, head of O2 Pay Monthly, said in a statement that the company appreciates "that our customers want to get the most from their mobile broadband service and we continually look to provide value-added services for them."

O2 is the only company that offers unlimited WiFi connectivity to its users although at £15 for 3GB worth of data transfer, its offer is still lagging behind the likes of 3.

BT also recently announced that it would be collaborating with ATM provider cashbox to turn 2500 ATM into paid-for WiFi hotspots.

In addition, O2 has announced that it wil be upgrading its Connection Manager, a Windows-only application that allows users to manage their GPRS, 3G and WLAN connections without having to juggle within multiple interfaces.
