SIM Free HTC Hero Android Phone Goes On Sale For £399.99

If you fancy getting the latest Android smartphone on the market, then HTC Hero is available from a mere £399.99 from a number of online retailers.

You can pre-order the device from Expansys (for delivery in 8 days) for as little as £399.99 and you get £30 worth of vouchers to spend on accessories if the purchase was made between the 29th of June and the 31st of July 2009.

Surprisingly, a T-Mobile locked first generation HTC G1 Android will sell for £334.99 from the same retailer. Buyers can also get the HTC Hero for £34.26 from T-Mobile on a 18 month contract (total cost of contract at £616.48) and gives you unlimited texts and data as well as 700 inclusive minutes.

Amazon is also offering the HTC hero on pre-order but for significantly more - £430 - and with a tentative shipping date of July 15th, or one week after Expansys delivers its first HTC Hero.

However, Pocket-lint is also reporting that both Orange and T-Mobile could be delaying the release of the HTC Hero, akin of the delay experienced by Vodafone when it launched the HTC Magic. A late July release or an August launch is not out of question.
