Ofcom Report Shames Internet Service Providers For Misleading Maximum Broadband Speeds

According to report published by telecom watchdog Ofcom, many broadband companies in UK are using misleading advertisements to claim that they offer super fast connections which eventually never achieve their stated levels.

With internet usage increasing with each passing day, speed has become a critical issue for many users who use bandwidth intensive applications and opt for high speed plans offered by broadband companies.

However the report Ofcom seems to clearly suggest that a large section of broadband subscribers in UK are getting less than the promised speeds and mentioned that most users who have subscribed for 8 Mbps plan are actually received a speed on just 3.9 Mb on average.

Interestingly, nearly 57 percent of homes in UK have subscribed to the 8 Mbps plan and they would be surprised to know that they are receiving nearly half of their promised speeds.

Expressing his views on the issue, Ofcom CEO, Ed Richards mentioned "It's very easy to go out and find out what the price of broadband is, but much more difficult to get a good understanding of what the observed speeds are likely to be,"

Incidentally the report also gave a rank of average speeds that were offered by major ISPs in UK and Virgin Media claimed the top honours for offering the highest average broadband speeds though its network.
