Facebook Acquires Friendfeed As It Targets Twitter

Social networking phenomenon Facebook has announced the purchase of Friendfeed, the social networking aggregator or Sharing service) for an undisclosed sum on Monday afternoon.

On the Friendfeed blog, the company's founder, Bret Taylor said that they were happy to announced the acquisition and as his mom explained, when two companies love each other very much, they form a structured investment vehicle, a type of fund in the shadow banking system that was popular until the market went berserk last year.

In a press release, Facebook underline the role played by the four founders of Friendfeed and how they played key roles in popular Google products like Gmail and Google Maps.

Even Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO and founder of Facebook showed his appreciation of the quartet saying “Since I first tried FriendFeed, I’ve admired their team for creating such a simple and elegant service for people to share information”.

As part of the agreement, Friendfeed's 12 employees will join Facebook and the senior management will take on leading roles in Facebook's engineering and product teams. We will report further as soon as more details emerge.
