Three billion Apple apps downloaded

Apple has announced that the Itunes App Store has served more than three billion pieces of Iphone and Ipod Touch software.

The service, which was launched in July 2008, hit the one billion apps milestone in April 2009 and clocked up two billion in september of the same year.

No doubt boosted by Christmas sales, the Itunes App Store is now so far out in front of the competition from Johnny-come-latelys Microsoft, Google and Blackberry that it will probably never be overtaken.

The fact that it can take hours on end to sort the software gold from the inevitable chaff has done little to deter the Iphone faithful from lining the pockets of both the Cupertino company and the army of bedroom coders who have made the App Store such an astounding success.
