Geeks overclock Celeron to 8.2GHz
27 January, 2010
Just because they can
A gaggle of geeks has managed to overclock a Celeron processor to run at 8.2GHz.
An overclocker from XtremeLabs.org pushed a 65nm, 3.06GHz Intel Celery D 347 to 8199.5MHz on a DFI LanParty UT P35 rig, using OCZ memory and a squirt or two of liquid nitrogen just to stop the whole thing bursting into flames.
The feat logged the highest clock-speed validated by the CPU-Z database.
AMD and Intel gave up on the megahurtz race when they finally realised that adding more cores was a better way to go, so the hobbled Celeron remains the overclocker's tinkering toy of choice.
