MoD admits to social networking leaks

Twitter ye not

Employees of the Ministry of Defence and member of the armed forces have leaked secrets onto social notworking sites and Internet forums  some 16 times in the past 18 months, a freedom of information request reveals.

Ten people have been disciplined over the matter and warned over twattering on the likes of Twitter.

In a sign of the times, the leaks were disclosed after a PR company made a Freedom of Information request to the MoD.

MoD staff aren't generally banned from joining on-line social networks in their personal lives or posting blogs and comments.

The department's code tells employees: 'Remember you are a member of HM Forces / MOD civil servant. Observe the same high standard of conduct and behaviour online as would be expected of you in your professional or personal life'."
