Cable hacker faces 20 years in jail

Modified modems offered free Internet access

US Feds arrested a man yesterday and charged him with conspiracy and wire fraud after he allegedly sold two knobbled modems to undercover FBI agents.

Mathew Delorey from Massachusetts faces 20 years in clink or a $250,000 fine if he's convicted of the charges according to a Computerworld report.

Delorey used to run the Massmodz website which openly sold the modems, though it has now diisappeared. The hacked hardware spoofed its own MAC address making it appear as though another modem was connected.

He is also accused of selling DIY kits giving users instructions on how to hack their own kit.

Delorey, who apparently wasn't smart enough to cover his own digital tracks, also posted modem hacking tips to Youtube.
