Japanese electronics giant Sharp said it will launch a solar-powered mobile phone in China within the next few days.
Sharp uses its unique three-junction thin-film photovoltaic panel technology in the design of the phone, combined with thin-film solar batteries.
The company said half an hour of direct sunlight would generate enough charge for a few minutes chit chat.
Sharp admits charging efficiency is a limiting factor and recommends the phone for those enjoying an outdoor lifestyle. Handy should you get lost in the desert - assuming there's network coverage.
Sharp thinks it will be able to charge such gadgets under indoor lighting in the future.
