Arch miserablist and UK Prime Minister Gordon 'Smiley' Broon is the new poster boy for malicious hackers according to panicky emails spreading throughout the UK today.
Warnings about the supposedly infected emails, which are purported to contain images of the normally dour-faced Scot 'smiling' or 'happy' are doing the rounds and spreading fast. Users are told that the emails contain a well-documented virus which has the ability to jigger your entire hard drive.
Recipients are asked to pass on the warning to friends and family.
This is, of course complete and utter cobblers. It's not quite clear why some forms of pondlife find it funny to start these pyramid panic schemes but it's not big and it's not clever.
Countless hours are wasted by hapless and ill-informed computer users desperately trying to remove non-existent infections, and that's without all the wasted bandwidth used up to punt this pointless, childish twaddle all over the planet.
We're sure there's a twelve-year-old sniggering about how clever he is somewhere, fooling all those stupid adults.
Don't be one of them. If you receive one of these mails, please tell the person who sent it that it's a hoax and just delete it.
If you know who's at the beginning of the chain, let us know, and we'll go 'round his house and tell his mum.
