Xerox sues Google, Yahoo over copying

A firm made famous for copying, Xerox, has filed a lawsuit against Yahoo, Google and YouTube claiming infringement of search patents it owns.

Xerox said Google's AdWords and AdSense services violate a Xerox patent on automatically generating searches.

The firm filed the suit in the US District Court for the District of Delaware, last Friday, claiming that Yahoo Search Marketing, Yahoo Publisher Network and Y!Q Contextual Search also infringe the patent.

Xerox further claims that Google Maps, Google Video, YouTube and Yahoo Shopping all infringe another patent it owns concerning the way information from different sources is integrated.

The patents in question are US Patents 6,778,979 and 6,236,994.

Google and Yahoo told the The Wall Street Journal they would fight the charges.
