Itunes hits 10 billion milestone

Apple has sold ten billion* songs through its record-breaking iTunes service.

That's a lot of money for Apple, the record companies, and the artists involved, considering the fuss everyone made when digital downloads took over from copying your friends CDs as the best way to get your hands on the latest pop music.

The iTunes Store has over 12 million songs, 55,000 TV episodes and 8,500 movies including over 2,500 in high definition.

The 10 billionth song, Guess Things Happen That Way by Johnny Cash, was purchased by Louie Sulcer of Woodstock, Georgia. As the winner of the iTunes Countdown to 10 Billion Songs, Louie will receive a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card.

The Top Ten most downloaded tunes are (you'll have to hum the Top of the Pops theme tune yourself here... da daa da daa dumm - durdurduuur durdurduuur) in ascending order:

Tik Tok by Kesha

Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis

Love Story by Taylor Swift

Low (featuring T-Pain) by Flo Rider

Just Dance by Lady Gaga and Colby

Viva la Vida by Coldplay

I'm Yours by Jason Mraz

Boom Boom Pow by Black Eyed Peas

Poker Face by Lady Gaga

and in at the top spot...

I Gotta Feeling by Black Eye Peas

*That's ten thousand million, not ten million million.
