Google Explains Search Frontend Revamp

Google has disclosed detailed information about its newly revamped search engine, stating it has been designed keeping in mind the 'rising expectations for search' among internet users.

Posting on the their blog, Google explained that designers had spent a great deal of time in creating the left-sided smart navigation panel in an attempt to offer additional search functions to users without distracting them from the primary ones.

Jon Wiley, Senior User Experience Designer with Google, wrote on the blog: “As the web has evolved over the past decade, people have been typing more sophisticated searches and seeking out specialized search tools to match.”

The post reveals that Google designers have been testing the navigation panel since 2006 and that they believe it to be an excellent tool for providing enhanced search results.

Google initiated the updating process back in May when it launched its Search Options Panel, designed to separate the search results into categories.
