Twitter targets businesses

Receive complaints, insults and threats in private

Twitter is testing a set of add-on services aimed at corporate users, it has emerged.

There's no word on pricing yet, but the Twitter Business Center is expected to be a paid-for service, given that the company doesn't have much of a revenue stream at the moment.

According to screenshots published by Mashable, the service would enable users to receive direct messages from people they do not follow, a potentially useful feature for companies using Twitter for customer service who don't want all their dirty laundry aired in public.

That feature alone would make Twitter almost as useful as email.

The new service would also allow multiple users to share the same account and for users to display the 'Verified' badge, previously limited to celebrity twits, on their profiles.

The Business Center is currently in a limited beta-test, but is expected to be rolled out to more accounts as the test progresses.
