Wikipedia Founder Gives Up Some Rights After Porn Controversy

Update:

Jimmy Wales has responded to the rumours that he has given up his editorial rights.

Writing on his Twitter account that the Fox News story is nonsense he stated that he is "still actively editing, every single day" before adding that he is "not stepping down or pulling back from anything".

He has however given up some of his editorial rights, as this Wikimedia page confirms.

Jimmy Wales, head of the Wikimedia Foundation, has been discharged from his top editorial position at Wikipedia.

Fox News said the news came after controversy surrounding allegations that thousands of pages on the popular online encyclopedia contained pornography that was easily accessible by young children.

The news channel had also reported that Wikipedia contained pages featuring disturbing pictures of young children.

Representatives of Wikipedia's owners, the Wikimedia Foundation, were reported to have said that Wales had given up his Wikipedia account privileges to edit, add and delete pages on the site.

Wikipedia came under fire from the media and public figures after Fox News reported the existence of pornographic pages on the website, prompting a Wikipedia-wide search and delete operation, carried out by Jimmy Wales and his team of editors.
