Fans honour Douglas Adams on Towel Day

So long and thanks for all the books

May 25th is International Towel Day, when fans honour the memory of Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy author Douglas Adams.

Towel-based events are happening all over the world in an bizzarely apt tribute to the author, broadcaster, environmental campaigner, Apple evangelist and all-round good egg Adams, who died in May 2001.

God botherer Richard Dawkins, official biographer Neil Gaiman and national treasure Stephen Fry have all been promoting the the day, which remembers their close friend and one of the most influential authors of the 20th century.

So if you see any strange people wandering around wearing a bath robe and clutching a towel, you'll know exactly why.
