Adobe Launches PDF Reader for Android

Adobe Systems has announced the release of its official PDF reader application for Android-based smartphones at the Google I/O developer conference.

The application, now available as a free download from the Android Marketplace, is designed let users access PDF documents received on their phones.

On the Adobe blog, Steve Gottwals wrote: “You can now use Adobe Reader to access PDF files on your Android device - for free, of course. We hope you enjoy the new app, and we look forward to your feedback as you check it out.”

Software testers warn that the application may be a bit slow when opening large files, but otherwise works well.

Compatible with Android 2.1 and above, the Adobe Reader for Android application comes with multi-touch navigation functions including 'pinch-to-zoom', double-tap zoom, flip-scrolling and panning.

It also comes with a 'reflow' function that optimises text for display on small smartphone screens.
