Lacie launches HDs with fingerprint scanner

Claims unbreakable encryption

Lacie has thrown down the gauntlet to hackers with a new hard drive which it claims has 'unbreakable encryption'.

The Rugged Safe All Terrain hard disk is, according to the storage specialist, "the most complete mobile storage solution available. It offers multiple levels of data protection, from its unbreakable hardware encryption and the safest biometric authentication technology, to its shock–proof enclosure."

The drive offers boimetric authentication using a fingerprint scanner for up to ten users, 128-bit AES hardware encryption and can be bus powered staright out of the box on both Macs and PCs.

Designed by Scottish wunderkind Neil Poulton, the drive comes with Lacie's now traditional rubber bumpers and firewire and USB 2.0 ports.

500GB of portably secure storage will set you back $190 or you can have a whole Terabyte for $300.
