HTC buys French software outfit Abaxia

Software on the move

HTC Corporation said it has acquired Paris-based Abaxia, a maker of custom software for mobile operators and handset manufacturers.

"HTC is committed to creating the best possible mobile experience for our customers today, tomorrow and into the future,” flannelled Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation.

"The addition of Abaxia deepen and broaden our software development capabilities so that we can innovate at an even faster pace," he said.

"HTC and Abaxia have worked closely together in the past and our businesses complement each other well,” said Cedric Mangaud, CEO of Abaxia.  “We’re excited to be joining such a significant and emerging mobile brand."

Abaxia says it promotes on-device services, using handset software to make services easier to discover, access, promote and distribute.

"The "widgets" and "gadgets" which are taking Web 2.0 by storm are an example of how complex web services can be easy to discover, access and use through on-device client software – and a paradigm which we feel is extremely well suited for mobile handsets, too," said Mangaud

Financial details of the transaction have not been made available.
