Cheapo Office contender tips up

BinaryNow last week released a new version of Kingsoft Office 2010.

This alternative office suite for Microsoft Windows is composed of three applications: a word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation package.

The latest version includes a completely redesigned core layout engine, which makes it the smallest, fastest, and most compatible alternative to Microsoft Office on the market today. Other improvements include complete Microsoft Office Open XML support (.DOCX, .XLSX, .PPTX) and native Adobe PDF support.

We've been having a fiddle with the offering and, as far as we can see, there's not much wrong with it. We'll bring you a full review shortly.

All three applications - Kingsoft Writer, Kingsoft Presentation, and Kingsoft Spreadsheets - do what they say on the tin, using a Microsoft Office 2003 toolbar-style layout.

Some of the new features include: better table support, increased document security, workbook sharing, 27 new spreadsheet functions and .PPTX format support.

Kingsoft Office 2010 Professional costs $39.95 and there's a free 30-day trial, here. Feel free to tell us what you think of it.
