Orange Unveils Phone-Charging Wellies
UK mobile provider Orange has unveiled a pair of eco-friendly boots that will allow users to charge their mobile phones using the heat generated by their feet.
Created in collaboration with eco-experts GotWind, the Orange 'Power Wellies' have a power generating sole that turns heat from user's feet into power.
The boots create what its creators call 'wellectricity', which supplies the users with a enough electricity to charge their phones. Phones will be plugged into a socket at the top of the boot.
The Power Wellies are designed for users when visiting muddy areas lacking a reliable power supply, such as a music festival or concert, where the heat generated by the dancing and jumping will power their phones.
Orange explained: “Inside the power generating sole there are thermoelectric modules constructed of pairs of p-type and n-type semiconductor materials forming a thermocouple. These thermocouples are connected electrically forming an array of multiple thermocouples (thermopile).”
Orange, as the official communications partner, will be showing off the prototypes at the Glastonbury Festival this year.
